Free to self-host, for good
Everything Replayowl does today is open source under AGPL-3.0 and free to run on your own infrastructure, with no limits on sites, sessions or retention. You pay only your own hosting bill.
- Recording on any number of sites
- Full sessions across pages, with no length limit
- Replay with hover states, Shadow DOM and CSS-in-JS
- Console errors and stack traces on the timeline
- Search by user ID, page, duration, device, errors and rage clicks
- In-browser masking with per-element controls
- Cloudflare Workers or Node, any S3-compatible storage, D1 or Postgres
- Your data stays in your accounts
The rule we will keep
Recording, replay, search and privacy controls stay in the free, open source version. If we ever charge for something, it will be a feature that only organisations need, not something taken out of the free version.
Questions
Why AGPL-3.0?
You can run, change and self-host Replayowl for any purpose, including at work. The AGPL asks one thing: if you offer a modified version to others as a hosted service, you share your changes under the same license. That stops someone from taking the project, closing it, and selling it back as a service.
Is there a hosted version?
No. Replayowl is built for people who want recordings on their own infrastructure, so self-hosting comes first.
What will hosting cost me?
It depends on your traffic and provider. On Cloudflare you pay for Worker requests, D1 or Postgres, and storage for the recordings. The Workers paid plan is recommended because the free plan's 10 ms CPU limit can be too tight for large first snapshots and password checks.
