Your data will not move to Splunk

Smartlook says Splunk will not migrate historical data to Digital Experience Analytics in Splunk Observability Cloud, and existing subscriptions will not be transitioned automatically. Smartlook recommends exporting with its REST API before your paid subscription ends, and in any case no later than 31 August 2027.

What to do now

  1. Export what you need to keep. Create a REST API token in Smartlook and pull the data you rely on. Do it while you are still on a paid plan, because the free plan has limits.
  2. Decide what you actually used. Session replay, heatmaps, funnels and mobile SDKs point to different replacements.
  3. Run the replacement in parallel for a few weeks before your Smartlook plan ends, so you have recent sessions on day one.

Replacements

  • Session replay, heatmaps and funnels, hosted: Splunk’s Digital Experience Analytics is Smartlook’s official successor. Microsoft Clarity is free. Hotjar has a free plan with 200k monthly sessions.
  • Self-hosted: Umami (analytics with replay and heatmaps), PostHog (product suite), OpenReplay (developer-focused, includes mobile) and Replayowl (web session replay only).

Can Replayowl import Smartlook recordings?

No, not today. Smartlook’s export and Replayowl’s recording format are different, and we have not built a converter. If importing old recordings would decide this for you, tell us in an issue.
