Pick PostHog if
You want replay connected to funnels, cohorts, feature flags and experiments, and you are happy to use their cloud or run their stack.
Pick Replayowl if
You only need replay, you want it on your own infrastructure, and you want the smallest possible thing to run: a Worker, a bucket and a database. The recorder is about 8 KB gzipped with no dependencies, which matters if you are adding it to every page of a site where you already watch performance closely.
